Frequently Asked Questions: Paying with Klarna
What is Klarna?
Klarna is a global payment provider that gives you more flexibility and control when shopping with us. It allows you to buy what you want today and split the cost into manageable, interest-free payments.
What payment options does Klarna offer in the UK?
Depending on your purchase, you will see the following options at checkout:
- Pay in 3 instalments: Split your purchase into three equal payments. The first payment is taken when your order is confirmed, and the remaining two are automatically collected every 30 days.
- Pay in 30 Days: Buy now, receive your items, and pay for them up to 30 days after shipment.
Will using Klarna affect my UK credit score?
Klarna performs a soft credit check at checkout to determine your eligibility. This initial check does not affect your credit score and is not visible to traditional lenders.
However, Klarna shares your repayment data with UK Credit Reference Agencies (like Experian and TransUnion). Paying on time helps you build a positive credit history, while missing payments or paying late will actively damage your credit score and make it harder for you to get credit in the future.
Are there fees or interest?
There is no interest, and there are no fees when you pay on time. However, if an automatic payment fails and you miss the payment deadline, Klarna charges a late fee of £5 per instalment.
To protect you, Klarna offers a 7-day grace period to clear your balance before charging a fee. Late fees are also capped at 25% of your total order value, with a maximum of two late fees per order.
What happens if I need to return an item?
Simply log your return in the Klarna App and follow our standard store return policy. Klarna will pause your payment schedule while we process the return. Once we receive and verify the return, Klarna will update your statement and refund any payments you’ve already made.
How do I manage my payments?
You will receive email notifications and payment reminders directly from Klarna before any balance is due. You can view your due dates, change your linked payment card, or make manual early payments at any time by logging into the Klarna App or via the online portal.
Where can I get help if I am struggling to pay?
If you are facing unexpected financial difficulties, please do not ignore your statements. Contact the Klarna Customer Service team via their 24/7 web chat or app to access support tools, such as payment delays or financial hardship programs. You can also escalate unresolved disputes directly to the UK Financial Ombudsman Service.
